This site was established as an aid to help the American consumer in deciding if a Television converter box is needed for any television set they may own. By now most of you have heard of Television converter boxes and that sometime in the future you will have to buy one to watch tv. Only part of this is true.

Do all televisions need a converter box.

The answer is no. Only some television sets will need a converter box. If you are receiving tv signals from cable TV, or any one of the similar pay services, DirectTV, Satellite TV etc.. and you do not use a TV antenna for any programs, your television will not need a converter box.

It's best to check with the manufacturer of your TV set and see if it has a digital tuner. There is absolutely no sense in buying a Television converter box if you don't need it. And what with gas prices through the roof, most of us need every dime we can save.

If your television set is digital compatible you will also not need a converter box. However if you have an analog TV and you use an antenna for any programs, you will need to buy a Television converter or replace your television with one that is capable of receiving digital signals.

Most, if not all of us, would rather not have to buy another TV set to replace the one we have. Especially if you are like me and have a set that has been around for quite a few years and never given you any problems. Well we have good news for you. Since the United States Government has mandated that all TV stations broadcast in digital by February 17, 2009, they are also giving coupons away to the tune of $40.00 per Television converter box purchase. Limit 2 per household.

If you are the type of person that likes to read all the mumbo jumbo in Governmenteze, the complete requirements for giving out Television Converter coupons can be found at this link,

Don't say I did not warn you about Government Speak. Both documents are very long.
